Happy Halloween!! I have had two trick or treat- ers so far and they are adorable!!
I am an un-dead doll. And my friend is Marylin M. and our other friend is a guy in a suit with a mask??

Supposedly, the friends who are coming are dressing as a choda and a d- bag. That should be interesting...

What can you get for $6?

What can you get for 6.00usd? I am limited to that amount for my lover's Christmas present, and I am not sure what to do with that limit. I could go to a thrift store and search. I wonder what he will get me with 6.00. I was kind of hoping for something in particular that I have been hinting at, which definately costs more than 6.00. However, I have been on a strict budget for at least three or four years, and so has my family, so I am used to cheap Christmases. It could present an opportunity to be creative. Is it sad that I am already in the Christmas mood? Halloween has not even occured yet! Let me know if you all have any fun ideas!!!! By the way, I highly recommend gingerbread cookie tea from Celestial Seasonings. F-ing delicious:)

            Hope all is well.

Writer's Block: The one that got away

Do you believe in the concept of a soulmate? Do you think you've met him or her? Do you ever worry that "the one" got away?

stuff to do...

I have a TON of reading to do for classes tomorrow, and I also am being distracted by this woman who is shouting and laughing really obnoxiously right outside my window. Some of my friends are going to a poetry reading tonight- I would like to go, and that is my motivation for doing my stuff. However, it might not be feasible.... we'll see!
   Have a good week all!

thoughts and advice?

Random thoughts: All of the text that I am reading for my classes is a little bit depressing:(
Good news: it is cold in ABQ today!!! I love the fall.
How do you teach film as text?
Why am I taking three classes and teaching two next semester? I may die- I am already nervous about it, and am not even halfway through this semester...
My students are little shits but they are also hilarious. I wish they were more responsible though, and I also don't know how comfortable I am being a disciplinarian in certain situations. They just need that sometimes, and when I react to them in that manner, I am surprised and a little bit creeped out by how easily I play that role when needed.

***  In light of my disorganized thoughts on teaching, and since I had no training prior to this last-minute assignment,
any advice for classroom management?
also helpful- what were the things that impressed you guys about your favourite profs at GU? I keep trying to think of specific people I could mimic in certain aspects, because now that I am doing this, I want to be great.
   Gracias.

muah ahhhhh

I love it here, but am having an off day I think. I need to whine about it a little, so don't read this- it will probably annoy you.

These are the things that are bothering me:
     I don't feel well.
     Dave just left.
My roommate and I just don't really mesh, or I just think she is very strange.
That's really most of it. I'm done now.

I am grading papers by the way! It's crazy, but I actually kind of like it, except for the whole part about being in charge of that judgement.

I just want to get out of my apartment- have an adventure-do something fun! but everyone from the dept. did fun things last night and are now at home grading papers like me. It is nice here tonight- I am sitting outside on my patio looking at the sky, and the climate is amazing in autumn.  I am officially impressed- it would be nice to have more mobility though. .... so I could go more places beside's Bill's and walking around Whole Foods, which I have already done today:)

Writer's Block: Under Protest

Have you ever participated in a boycott? What did you boycott and why?

I perpetually boycott Wal Mart because they suck and are making America more stupid/ putting a lot of people out of business in the process.

yeah!

I may have just gotten offered two jobs! One is campaining for Environment New Mexico, which is super close to campus and I wouldn't need a job. The other, is a possible GA that I would do for 16 weeks, transcribing, researching, and grading papers- all useful skills! yeah!!!! Finally getting a possibility of a break here is like getting hydration in this desert!!!!
       Yeahhhhhhhhh!

Hola

Hola mis amigos del livejournal. I am in NM in an ice cream shop that is just like Mr. Magorium's  Wonder Emporium. If you ever come here, it is on Carslisle and is called I scream for Ice cream. It is my favourite thing here so far. Things are pretty tough right now, not going to lie. I'll get back to you when I've got things more sorted. My apt. does have a pool (awesome!) but who knows how I will pay rent for next month. Anyways, just wanted to check in since I haven't been on here at all for a while. Hope you are all well.

 Loves,

Em

Writer's Block: Pick and Stick

If you could only eat one kind of cuisine—Mexican, Thai, French, Italian, Indian, Chinese, etc.—for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

View 503 Answers

Well I pretty much eat Mexican every day in some form or another, so probably either that or Indian. I love Indian food and always crave it.

NM

Right now I am at 85% New Mexico. I think I am just going to do it. I am registered for a class, and everything about that area of the country seems really appealing, besided the fact that all of my heart is beckoning me back to WA.
It would be nice if I could win the lottery- then I travel wherever I wanted all the time and not be stuck somewhere.
The school is definately a shit-ton more huge than GU, and therefore a lot less personal. It's pretty weird in that way.

Seattle misadventures

These are my favorite parts of the Seattle part of my trip:
  • Helping Dave and Noah move into their new apartment
  • Drunken adventure night
  • Seeing Amanda actually happy for once
  • Smoke bombs in the park "I need a light!" "for what?" "Smoking" "you smoke?!" "Yeah, smoke bombs!"
  • Getting to know and appreciate the beauty of the DW
  • Camping in the Olypics with Kory and Ryan
  • Hearing about Ryan, aka "lion" tell his stories about his year in Japan and how everyone mispronounced his name and said ooh "lion- grrrrr" when they met him
  • the bus ride with Evan

sharing

I was just talking to Dave about this, but I felt like sharing it with you too. There are some people who make a serious impression on your soul, even if you may not know them. They are the ones that tell you a story, give you their oppinion, or tell you a secret. You might not even realize the effect they are having on you until years later, but we all have the ability to affect each other. Two ships that pass will probably not necessarily affect each other at all, unless there is some exchange, or some form of sharing between them. When we share a part of our past, a memory, our personality or an experience with another person, it makes us more vulnerable. It is like taking a part of yourself, and giving it away for safe keeping. Everyone is carrying precious cargo from others who have shared of themselves, and we are all waiting to give parts of ourselves away to lighten our loads.

rides

~getting a ride from Seattle to Spokane is becoming a real problem. None of the friends who said they could take me back will be able to do so, for various reasons. I am kind of pissed too because I did not know that you could buy a roundtrip airline ticket that arrives and leaves from different destinations, so that would have saved me a lot of trouble and given me an extra night in Seattle. I am thinking of the bus again, but the departure/ arrival times really suck and the ticket is almost 50 dollars. a friend suggested craigslist rideshare, but from looking at it, I can imagine it being somewhat unsafe. I know it will work out, but right now I am feeling pretty frustrated. Anybody going back to Spokane tomorrow?

Spokane memories

So, I never want to forget my wonderful trip. Since it is kind of in two parts- the Spokane part/ the Seattle -Olympia- Tocoma(sp?) part, I will relay highlights from the first part in Spokane:)
  • seeing a squirrel drink water from a fountain
  • spending time with some of my best friends from school
  • Natural Start and their awesomeness, mate, drawing in the book of art, listening to jazz, hanging with Josh, Julie, and MarMar
  • being a pilgrim wanderer
  • going to Moses Lake, meeting the embodiment of chicken little, having big fat greek wedding moments with Mel's Portugese farming family, learning the lyrics to my favorite festa song translate to 'get your hand of my leg you pervert', and getting to meet Ava, tia Gloria, and little Olivia.
  • learning that people are nicer than you might expect
  • senior art show (aka the Steven Prohira show, but it was still fun)
  • realizing that when you trust that somehow things will be OK, they generally work out well. worrying does nothing
  • Andrea and Pireus, probably not spelled right? and having a safe place to stay the last two nights before leaving
  • Kevin from the career center and our discussion about the dichotomy of race in SD
  • getting drunk with Marie's family after gradumacation and singing summer lovin' really loudly with them downtown
  • crashing the English party on request of all my favorite profs. I should have known they'd be so cool with everything
  • finding that Evan and Andrea have something in common:)
  • cheese fries
  • taxi driver that took us to the bus depot, and our conversations with him, especially the one about centering your spirit with the place you learned to walk for creating balance in life, and the one about his stuffed buffalo
  • meeting 'Scrappy' in Riverfront park. now that was truly interesting.
  • talking to Gilmore and Mary in Jundt and hearing Gilmore say "have a nice life" one more time. Classic.

On being homeless in Spokane...

I am partially 'homeless', as I only really have a place to sleep (and only through Friday night). The first few days were a bit tricky, but now I am kind of enjoying being a wanderer. I would reccommend it to everyone as a once in a while occurance. My instinct is to nest and be a bit of a homebody, but I love exploring. When you are partially homeless you have no choice but to be outside a lot, be a little uncomfortable, and rely on skills often ignored by the privelage of having a place to stay/ store objects/ sleep. You rely on other people more, and need to plan a little bit. Anyways, Julie and Andrea I have enjoyed seeing you both!!

                 O' Doherty's Cheese fries!!! Yeah:)

I love how I get here to do work and procrastinate. But, I did write a new resume from scratch so that will be at least one thing accomplished.
Campus is definately different! There is a lot of new stuff, and I barely recognize people.
By the way, wtf is up with father spitzer day?! I know he is leaving, but still !?
